Being a father doesn’t mean you have to stop being an outdoors guy, but it also doesn’t mean leaving your family every weekend and running to the mountains. Being an Outdoors Father is about balance, enjoying both loves – your family and the great outdoors.
Whether you are going solo or taking your family outdoors, here you can find my tricks to doing it – being that outdoors guy you don’t want to lose (and not feel guilty about it) while still being a great father and (hopefully) a good husband.
From time to time new guides will be offered on the site, gear reviews, trip reports and how to’s for the outdoors.

About me
When people ask me what “my sport” is, I get stuck – I don’t really have one. I climb, walk, run, cycle, scramble, camp, and everything else in the outdoors (though I haven’t gotten into skiing yet), so I end up saying simply – “I’m into the outdoors, that’s my sport – everything outdoors”. I have been roaming the outdoors since the 80’s, experimenting with all the activities it has to offer. From straightforward daytime activities to hardcore long term treks throughout the Andes and other places, I have tried a bit of everything. And I have made it my mission to know a little bit about everything, from tried and tested “common knowledge” (for the experts) to the latest gear, technologies and survival techniques that can make the difference between misery and exhilaration on an outdoor outing.
Professionally, I have worked in outdoor retail since 2006. The thing is, I hate the retail/sales side of the industry. I, personally, hate shopping. And as an industry insider, feel like there are many issues. I love gear, I know gear and am always happy to share that knowledge. So I created this blog to provide just the service, which many people aren’t getting because of untrained store staff or because they are shopping online.
You can read more about me here, if you really want.
I, Gilad, am the Outdoors Father. But we all know behind every good man is an even better woman, and indeed my wife is such a lady. She is the resident editor, writer, sounding board and support team (mainly for me). You can read more about her here.
