Well, this is a bit awkward but I guess it is what it is: the last post on this site is from almost a year and a half ago, and even that one was a filler after a year without writing. This means this site has been dormant for almost two and a half years. So I’ll start with an apology: I’ve been busy, very busy, not that it is much of an excuse, but in any case, I’m sorry for the lack of words here.
Here is a quick recap: in the last three years I’ve moved from the UK to the US with my wife and two kids (from London to Portland, OR). Started a company that for the first two years was only me. Launched 2 products and developed 5 (more to launch), hired people, bought a house, settled down and finally, maybe, have some free time.
I am happy to say though, that through this time I found ways to go backpacking (mostly one-nighters), introduced both of my kids to backpacking, got into bikepacking, learned so much more about gear and skills (that I’m looking forward to sharing) and upgraded a bunch of gear. All this means that I have a lot to write about, some are general things, some are new reviews. I have great ideas on how to help kids become super hikers and backpackers. All those will become new posts, some will be just random rants of mine, some maybe become iconic as the insulation post or the waterproofing post, I have a bunch of new (and old) gear to review, it will be fun I hope.
More than anything, this blog is going back to be what it was meant to be: not a pseudo-business like it was when I was writing and publishing the Cape Warth Guide, but my personal blog.
I have some strong opinions about the hiking industry, market, and community, I have my variation on things and I tend to be quiet. This is where those opinions and perspectives will come to live.
I hope you like what will come soon and if not, well, there some great other writers out there, but thank you for visiting.
